WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT BAPTISM

First and foremost, we at QuadCity Christian Church believe salvation is a free gift of God offered out of His grace. Salvation comes only through faith and not works. As such, we believe there is no particular human work that can earn anyone’s way into heaven.
 
We believe faith is more than just belief. Saving faith requires trust in God’s word such that the believer is willing to go beyond the cognitive understanding of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ to actual obedience to the teachings and commands of Jesus Christ. That obedience includes baptism as our own spiritual participation in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:3-4)
 
Our mission at QuadCity Christian Church is to "make more and better disciples of Jesus. Everywhere. Always." Jesus Christ Himself instructed us to make disciples by baptizing them and teaching them to obey everything he commanded (Matthew 28:19-20). Just as the apostles of Jesus Christ and the early church were faithful to Jesus Christ, we strive to do the same. We believe God intended baptism to be the first biblical expression of personal faith by one saved by the grace of God. Because this is a personal act of faith that requires trust in God’s word, we do not infant baptize. We also believe baptism should be done by immersion in water because it best reflects the meaning of the original Greek word in the New Testament, “baptizo.” Further, immersion in water best symbolizes the significance of baptism being a believer’s death, burial, and resurrection in Christ.

What is Baptism

Baptism is participating in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
(Romans 6:3-4)

It is through baptism that we are clothed with Christ. 

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
(Galatians 3:26-27)

Throughout the New Testament, baptism is the expected immediate response to saving faith for every believer. 

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
(Acts 2:38)

It is what Jesus commanded disciple-makers to do when they make disciples. 

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
(Matthew 28:19-20)

Should I be Baptized?

The question you should ask yourself is, "am I prepared to follow Jesus as my Lord?"

You should demonstrate a clear understanding that this is a life-long commitment (like marriage). Your life is no longer your own.

14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
(2 Corinthians 5:14-15)
 
 

FAQ's ABOUT BAPTISM

WHEN SHOULD I GET BAPTIZED?

As soon as you believe, repent, and confess, you should make plans for baptism.

 

WHAT IF I WAS BAPTIZED AT ANOTHER CHURCH?

As long as you were baptized by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ, it is not a requirement that you be “re-baptized” at QuadCity. Your baptism is into Christ, not a local church. However, we ask every member to repent of sin, confess Jesus as Lord and Savior, and be baptized by immersion as the New Testament directs.

 

CAN MY FAMILY BE BAPTIZED TOGETHER?

Yes. If each family member fully understands the meaning of baptism and each one believes and has repented.

 

WHAT ABOUT INFANT BAPTISM?

Some churches practice infant baptism by sprinkling. This is different from the baptism talked about in the Bible, which was only for those old enough to believe, repent, and confess Jesus personally. We would suggest that now with what you know is taught biblically, you should be obedient to the command of Jesus through baptism.

 

At QuadCity, it is a membership requirement to be baptized by immersion even though you may have been sprinkled as an infant and/or confirmed as a child.
