ECCLESIASTES 2:1-3, 10a

Pleasures Are Meaningless

I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good.” But that also proved to be meaningless. “Laughter,” I said, “is madness. And what does pleasure accomplish?” I tried cheering myself with wine, and embracing folly—my mind still guiding me with wisdom. I wanted to see what was good for people to do under the heavens during the few days of their lives.
10 I denied myself nothing my eyes desired;
    I refused my heart no pleasure.
HEBREWS 11:24-26
24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

1. Based on how you live, do you value Christ greater than pleasure?

2. If there are areas in your life where you put yourself above Jesus, stuff you’re hiding,  confess to someone who will help you navigate out of those waters.

Ask God to help you value Christ above all the temporal pleasures this world has to offer, and ask Him to show you where you value the temporary over the eternal.
